Air China (CA) adopts different free checked baggage policies from those of its joint transport partners in the U.S. and Canada, such as United Airlines (UA), Continental Airlines (CO) and Air Canada (AC). If you purchase a ticket on an Air China code-share flight operated by UA/CO/AC or other carrier in the U.S. and Canada, or purchase a ticket involving joint transport service provided by Air China and UA/CO/AC or other carriers in the U.S. and Canada, the free checked baggage policies in effect at the time you check-in at the check-in counter of the operating carrier may differ from those shown on the ticket.

Example for code-share flights: If you purchased a ticket on a flight that carries Air China’s flight number CA, but is operated by UA, the free baggage allowance indicated on the ticket is 2 pieces. However, when you check in at the UA check-in counter, the UA staff may apply their one-piece free baggage allowance policy and assess an excess baggage charge for your second piece of luggage.

Example for joint transport: If you purchase a ticket that includes flight segments YMQ-AC-X/YVR-CA-PEK at Air China’s sales outlets, the free baggage allowance indicated in the ticket is 2 pieces. However, when you check in at the counter of the operating carrier AC, its staff may apply their one-piece free baggage allowance policy and assess an excess baggage charge for your second piece of luggage.

In view of this, if you take a code-share flight or joint transport flights operated by Air China and carriers in the U.S. and Canada, please make sure to check the website of the operating carrier in the U.S. and Canada or dial the customer service hotline of the operating carrier for specific information on baggage policies prior to your trip.
